Well... Not really. Not most of the time. At least not when your japanese skills are still pretty insufficient, to put it lightly.
Most of the japanese shows I watch are indeed subtitled, for me to have a change to grok anything at all.
However, for some actors I am willing to make exceptions, and thus I decided to check out Sentou no musume, a 45 episode japanese drama wich never gained enough popularity among western fans for anyone to bother subbing it. Rather ambitious, I must admit.
And in cases like this it is rather amusing, almost rewarding, to see that I can actually follow the story pretty good. What I don't get of the dialog, I can usually extrapolate crucial, missing pieces from context.
I'm about halfway trough the show now, and it's actually dead-on exiting! So, in cases like these, where you get what is happening with no assistance at all, watching stuff like this, that is without subs, gives a rather rewarding feeling. Especially since I really shouldn't get things at all :P
A rewarding feeling watching what is essentially entertainment. Now that is a good deal.
