I've worked enough with support trough my life to know that something just ain't worth it no matter what the pay is. I'll let my family abuse me every once in a while just because I'm nice, but that's it.
In short: Computer support is hell and not worth it. Seemingly this guy didn't get the news.

New hardware! Yay! Well almost anyway.
Yesterday I bought a 2GB memorystick for my cellphone. Using 128kbps MP4-files that can fit quite a lot of music. Put the memorystick into the cardreader, copied files, put the card in phone. And things worked. Like things should. Useful, working, no hastle. These are things I like.
Move on to today and let's repeat the story. A friend of mine wants a network switch that I've been borrowing for quite a time now back, so I went out to buy a switch myself. Simple enough. Gigabit switches are cheap enough today, so buying anything less seems like a waste.

When you go to the other side of the planet to see a game show, someone might think taking a look at the games might be grand idea. Others evidently decides they can spend their time doing anything else once there.
Like this guy. No mention of games, only how his pictures didn't turn out that great and that unlike all the others, the Xbox360 boothbabe refused to let him take a picture of her.

When I installed this server, VMware server still wasn't a free product, while MS Virtual Server 2005 R2 was. Since I don't feel like running pirated software on my machines, my choice of virtualilization platform was pretty obvious back then. I knew that technically VMware most likely were a better product, but just how much difference could there possibly be?
This is a long one, so if you just want to see the obvious conclusion, scroll down to the bottom already.
Why?

Ok, so I don't usually read User Friendly, but someone threw a link in my face, and this one is actually rather funny. Again: for geeks. This is User Friendly, for crying out loud.
So here it is: Todays strip of User Friendly. As an added bonus, reading this strip will make my headline make sense.

Yesterday I installed Microsoft Visual Sourcesafe 2005 just so I could organize my code a little better. It may be the crappiest, most primitive sourcecontrol you can find on this planet, but it does work neatly with Visual Studio. Plus I don't need all that fancy functionality for my needs.
So far my code has been all over the place, and I hoenstly don't know where the code for all my projects happen to be. So after installing Visual Sourcesafe, I went trough my code and built up a solid set of strictly seperated, 100% reusable libraries.

Hinting that it comes from a president in some country with nukes, I'll give you two seconds to guess who may have said these words.
Right. As always: George Bush delivers a speech incredibly amusing or frightening beyond belief. All depending on if you find his obvious stupidity amusing or take into consideration he actually is the president over there.
Evidently the administration of the country spreading freedom & democracy™ find it unacceptable that people not only question their government, but just to think a single thought yourself instead of obeying blindly is now clearly unacceptable.

Since I was too lazy to implement my own traffic-analyzing solution before someone told me about Google Analytics, I decided to try that out instead.
So... Implementation was dead easy. Register, verify your email and then just add a tiny javascript snippet to the site-template. Done.
Now all I'm waiting for is some traffic on the site to see what actual data I can get out of this service. Now, if I will aprreciate the actual data or not is one thing, but it will be interesting none the less.

So... I took the Japanese Language Proficience Test 4, which in case you didn't know it, is the lowest level you can qualify for. There are tests over at Kanjistep and I thought I'd give it a go.
One thing that was abundantly clear, even before I got the test-results, was that my vocabulary is weak. This in effect made the rest pretty tough too. But I did it. No cheating. No looking up anything. And I did it within the designated timeframe. So the score I get probably refelcts my actual (lack of) japanese skills pretty well.
